GUIDELINES FOR EVERYONE
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AT VILAMOURA MARINA
WASTE MANAGEMENT:
Proper waste separation is essential. The marina offers the following facilities:
• Eco-points distributed throughout the piers and surrounding areas for paper/cardboard, plastic/metal packaging, and glass;
• Fixed and mobile eco-points in the yard area for general and hazardous waste;
• Specific containers for wood, scrap, cardboard, and paper, located in the yard;
• All other waste should be handed directly to the Marina’s services.
WASTE MANAGEMENT:
The pump-out system is the recommended solution. Wastewater and oily bilge water must be directed to this system, located at the fuel dock. Discharging contaminated water in the marina or near the coastline is strictly prohibited. During your stay at the Marina, please adhere to the following instructions:
• Do not use onboard sanitary facilities unless they are equipped with holding tanks, and ensure the tanks’ discharge valves remain closed.
• Showers and restrooms are conveniently available in the surrounding area.
CLEANING AND REPAIRING YOUR VESSEL:
• Use only biodegradable detergents when cleaning vessels at the piers or in the yard.
• More aggressive detergents may be used only in a specific yard area, designated for sail cleaning tanks.
• Contaminated water must be delivered to the Marina’s services.
• Hull cleaning should only be conducted in designated areas.
• While working in the yard, always use appropriate containment measures to prevent spills of paint, oil, or other hazardous materials (e.g., trays for storing chemical containers in use, or plastic sheeting under the vessel during sanding or painting).
• Dust extraction systems are mandatory for sanding operations
SPILL RESPONSE PROCEDURES:
• Prevention is key. Use appropriate protective equipment when handling chemicals.
• In the event of a spill, report it immediately to the Marina’s services.
• Specific containment and spill response materials are available in the yard and at the fuel dock.
EFFICIENT USE OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY:
Adopt sustainable habits:
• Turn off taps when not in use.
• Report any leaks or issues to the Marina’s services.
• Only wash your vessel when absolutely necessary.
• Fit nozzles to hoses to prevent waste (available for purchase at the Reception).
• Switch off lights and equipment when not in use, and choose energy-efficient devices.
SMALL ACTIONS THAT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE:
• Walk around the Marina’s surrounding areas.
• Pick up and dispose of your pet’s waste in appropriate bins.
• Avoid feeding seagulls or fish.
• Respect your neighbours by keeping sound equipment at a moderate volume.
• Observe the 3-knot speed limit within the Marina, saving higher speeds for open waters.
